Local authority partners

Big Brothers Big Sisters UK is a community-based mentoring programme that works in partnership with local authority and statutory agencies in the area to support children who need it most.

Our local partnerships consist of a local community organisation, the local authority or statutory agencies working with Big Brothers Big Sisters UK national body.

By working with local authorities or statutory agencies we can help children who need the most support, in an effective and safe way.

As demand continues to grow on children’s care services, local Big Brothers Big Sisters partnerships can provide an invaluable addition to the essential work that is already being carried out.

Through a link worker, the local authority partner will refer a child who will most benefit from a caring, adult mentor - their 'Big'.

The local authority will also provide DBS checks and safeguarding training for our adult volunteers. This is bound together in the Big Brothers Big Sisters UK legal agreement. The agreement includes all the policies and procedures necessary to carry out the programme in a safe, professional and agreed way.

"Over the past year at BBBS Oxfordshire, one Big has adopted a baby, and two Bigs have also become foster carers. They all credited participation in the BBBS programme as a factor in giving them confidence and the ability to make a difference."

"It's great that through Big Brothers Big Sisters UK we are able to offer much needed support to children who are subject to Special Guardianship orders. Working with BBBS UK and Guildford Action, our community partner, has been professional, easy and efficient - we can't wait to get started."
